Old Timey Kitchen Goods

The slightly-battered, old timey look is all over Brooklyn right now; it’s difficult to find a cafe or restaurant that isn’t decked out with ye olde fixtures and fittings.

And it works. It creates an immediately homey vibe, especially in the kitchen where this sort of patina suggests a hand-me-down from Grandma or interesting travels through the countryside of Provence.

If you don’t have a doting, hoarder for a Grandmother or the air miles to get to France, then these items may help you fake it.

Melbourne-based importer This…Design and Living have gone with a “vintage farmhouse” feel for their 2012 collection. Here’s some lovely pieces. My fav is the twine dispenser – to save my junk draw from being tangled up in string.

Twine Dispenser; Ribbed Round Tubs (set of three); Milk Bottles; SOS Storage tin.

Farmhouse Kitchen Dreams

I’m in a grass-is-always-greener moment where I’d like to give up my life in NYC and retreat to the country to become a farmer. Of course, I wouldn’t want to do any of the actual *work* that goes into running a farm. Instead I’d swan about my beautiful farmhouse kitchen, making scones and tending to my small herb garden. I’d sip on my home-grown herbal tea and make quilts sitting at the kitchen table, or something. One of these kitchens would do nicely I think. Though for now, I may have to suffice with some farmhouse inspired shopping.
